First and foremost, Points West Sports & Entertainment Inc. is a hockey agency. The challenges that a hockey player faces are many, and Points West possesses the practical knowledge necessary to advise clients accurately and thoroughly concerning draft preparation, contract negotiation, salary arbitration, workers’ compensation, grievance arbitration, free agency rights and all matters relating to the Collective Bargaining Agreements that govern the relationship between a player and his club.

POINTS WEST acts as a family advisor to assist its young clients and their families when they are faced with the choice of attending a U.S. College or playing for a major junior club in the Canadian Hockey League.

In order for a player to make the best decisions concerning the options available to him as an amateur, it is vital to understand the process that ultimately leads to the acceptance of an NCAA scholarship offer or the signing of a contract with a CHL team.

Furthermore, at this stage of a player’s career, POINTS WEST strives to connect its clients with coaches who specialize in skating instruction, strength/conditioning training and nutrition. We are fortunate to have access to top medical practitioners to assist our clients with injury issues and, importantly, to help players to develop the proper mental approach to apply to the game of hockey.

Pointswest’s clients are the beneficiaries of trading card contracts and equipment deals with top tier companies such as Warrior, Bauer, CCM, Reebok, Upper Deck, and Adidas.

Pointswest’s founder, Rich Evans, began working with corporations concerning their marketing programs in 1992, and he and the Pointswest’s team bring the same passion and commitment to achieving the goals of their corporate clients as they do in furthering the interests of the professional athletes they represent.

Rich previously worked for one of Canada’s top sports marketing firms, where he assisted corporate clients such as Coca-Cola Canada and Coca-Cola USA with their sports properties, including the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four basketball, Coca-Cola Future Stars grassroots hockey program and the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

ABOUT

The representation of athletes, entertainers and companies is, at its core, a service business. Pointswest Sports & Entertainment, Inc.’s guiding philosophy is to provide its clients with service that is superior to that provided by its competitors.

  • Founder of PointsWest. Rich is a graduate of Queen’s University Law School and articled with an international law firm in Toronto, Ontario. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and has been an NHLPA certified agent since 2000. In 1992, Rich began advising corporations such as Coca-Cola concerning their interests in sports properties, and in 1994 he became the Director of Legal & Business Affairs for the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA), representing the interests of over 1000 players in the AHL, IHL and ECHL. Rich’s roles at the PHPA included advising agents and players concerning contractual and collective bargaining issues, and in 2000 he began to represent players as an agent and family advisor. Since then, Rich has represented NHL players, as well as those playing major junior (WHL, OHL, QMJHL), NCAA, USHL, CJHL, European professional hockey and those in the North American minor pro leagues (AHL, ECHL). Rich has negotiated contracts for NHL draft picks, unrestricted free agents and restricted free agents (both with and without salary arbitration rights). He strives to devote his time equally to the careers of all his clients. Rich has also taught Sports Law at an Ontario University.

    Rich’s legal background and experience working for a players’ association has led to outstanding results for his numerous NHL clients in contract negotiation, salary arbitration and grievance arbitration matters. He resides in the hockey hotbed of Vancouver, British Columbia, with his wife and two children.

  • Chris began his association with PWSE following a successful stint as the Assistant Director of Player Development with the US National Team Development Program (US NTDP). He has been involved in the development of hockey players as a coach and scout for over 17 years and throughout this time has been involved in various levels of hockey. His coaching resume includes State and National Championships. While Chris was employed by the US NTDP, the program won gold, silver and bronze medals at the U18 World Championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively. His tenure at the NTDP also saw 42 players drafted by the NHL, including two players selected first overall and one player selected second overall.

    Chris’ keen eye for talent and his understanding of the steps necessary for hockey players to develop into professional players are valuable assets that he shares with his clients.

     

  • Daren has been involved in hockey for over twenty years in many different roles. Daren started out as a player before moving over to the management side of hockey with various different coaching, scouting, and evaluating positions. These experiences ultimately led him to his current role as an advisor/agent with PWSE. Since joining PWSE, Daren has represented hockey players in numerous different North American and European hockey leagues.

    Daren studied business at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, and currently resides in downtown Vancouver.

  • Ryan’s experience as a player, coach, and advisor allows him to provide valuable insight to his clients in all aspects of the hockey business. Ryan played youth hockey for the Honeybaked organization prior to playing college hockey for Morrisville State College, and he has also coached various youth elite teams in Michigan, and has participated in junior hockey showcases and training camps.

    Ryan has been advising hockey players since 2008, and he has developed a strong network of scouts, coaches and general managers that he utilizes to assist the players that he represents.

    Ryan earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University, and a Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He is a licensed attorney and formally trained mediator in Michigan, and resides in Detroit.

  • Steve “Scof” Schofield started his hockey career in Chicago playing for the AAA Chicago Minor Hawks organization, which later became know as Team Illinois. He has coached and scouted for over thirty years, and has acted as a family advisor for many players transitioning from AAA to Jr A, and later to the collegiate level.

    Steve lives in Los Angeles, and has been a top executive in the advertising industry for over twenty years. He has collaborated with numerous brands and created campaigns worldwide. Steve brings a wealth of knowledge to PWSE for future sponsorships and advertising opportunities.

  • Chris’ scouting and player development experience is wide-ranging. He has worked as a scout for NHL Central Scouting, and also for an OHL Championship team. While scouting for OHL and USHL teams he has been part of staffs that have drafted players who eventually played for World Junior, Olympic and NHL teams.

    Chris has coached at the ACHA and Midget AAA level. He was an integral part of the Detroit Compuware staff that captured the 2009 U16 Midget AAA National Championship, a team that boasted 4 future NHL Draft picks, 5 OHL players and 7 Div. 1 NCAA players.

    Chris holds a bachelor degree from Michigan State University’s Department of Kinesiology in Exercise Science. He resides in Detroit with his wife and daughter.
